Stepping into a voguish workplace

by Simran Almeida on 11th May 2021

Located on the outskirts of the beautiful Mumbai city is this very magisterial workplace. Designed by Ar. Samson Gomes this chic workplace with its earthy palate is a proper fit for this client. As the client, Mr. Peter Fernandes was ready to spend on even the tiniest details, which gave liberty to the Architect to design a voguish workplace. The biggest challenge was the client’s mentality as he wanted something unparalleled. The rectangular plot of 2750 sq. ft. did not make it easy as the rooms eventually follow the site's shape. One more tricky thing was the inculcation of Vaastu.

As we enter this plushly decorated office a waiting area with grey linen sofas bless your eyes. The reception adorned with shrubs provides a contrast to the earthy of the entire workplace. With oak finished veneer cladding the reception desk flaunts its zigzag ends. As the client partners with his daughter who also has a cabin of her own that overlooks the entrance. Then we come on to the highlight of this project I.e. the client’s cabin which is pompous in its way. The cabins have a curvilinear front, which contradicts it from the original plot. Also with no edge, the client and his daughter had a visual connection with the entire office. The client’s cabin is a surreal blend of work and relaxation space. The entry to the client’s office is through a wooden bridge with a water body that flows through a deity. As you enter the office there is a work-desk where the client sits with his back towards a waterfall which is ecstatic. The hearing sense that comes into the picture her as stress levels are high here, the mere sound of water calms you. To the left of the cabin is a lounge which is a step higher, adorned with an onyx clad wall it is a perfect space for the hi-tea.

The conference room is modishly placed behind the reception, with the cabin of the account head just adjacent to it. Overlooking the road outside is this cabin with its modest furniture complementing the palette of this project. While sitting next to that cabin are workstations with glossy finished desks adding to the grandeur of the entire workplace. The rear back I.e. the opposite of the entry are all the majorly private areas which are the washrooms and the storage units. While discussing the flooring, the Italian marble is completely overlooked, which gives the voguish look to this entire project. Pairing it with turf near the reception gives your eyes a break from the shiny marble. Having curated each nook and corner even the bathroom with their back-lit mirrors and gold glazed faucets and porcelain basins contrasting the earthy tones with deep blues makes a mark.

The palette of the project with its earthy tones is mesmerizing along with some flashy details to take out the monotony. Having a rather hierarchical placement of space this project sets a mark. Its plush interiors and earthy tones bring out a different vibe to the entire project. While this office lays low in the outskirts of Mumbai it screams ‘classy’.
